After spending almost nine months out of his ten-year imprisonment in exile, Mr Boroujerdi was unexpectedly transferred to Evin Prison from Yazd Central Prison on Wednesday evening, 19 August 2009. According to eyewitnesses, this transfer was carried out under extreme security measures.
This dissident cleric has been detained for three years and has suffered from numerous physical and mental problems. Informed sources declare that this transfer could be, in addition to continuous follow-ups by his family, due to the highly contaminated water of Yazd prison, his heart and kidney problems and lack of required medical facilities.
It should be mentioned that since 5 May 2009 after publishing an open-letter by this ideological prisoner to the UN Secretary General regarding the illegitimacy of the current Iranian regime and demanding international support to hold a free referendum, he was transferred to the solitary confinement section of Yazd Prison where he was under several mental and emotional pressures. In order to protest this procedure, he went on a one-month hunger strike and was admitted to the prison clinic multiple times.
