One day in 1987, one of my cellmates, Mehdi Vosoughian, told me about a discovery he had made. A student at Tehran's Polytechnic University, Mehdi was arrested at the age of 20. Coming back from an interrogation and torture session that day, he told me that Dr. Mirzai's real name is Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. Mehdi had taken a huge risk by conveying the identity of a torturer to me. He was executed in 1988 in the course of the massacre of political prisoners.
The period during which he worked at prisons have been retracted from Ahmadinejad’s official biography, and is shrouded in mystery. I know at least 10 other former prisoners who are prepared to testify at an international court, which I hope would one day try Ahmadinejad and other high ranking officials of the religious dictatorship in Iran for committing crimes against humanity.
